Inside The Life Of An IMAlive Volunteer

From Massachusetts, United States

Hello! My name is Deanna and I am a recent college graduate living in Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. I volunteer with IMAlive because I believe empathy has a lot of power. I’ve been in a place where I felt like I didn’t matter, and it helped a lot to have empathetic and non-judgemental people who were there to listen to my story. It’s often really intimidating to reach out for help, and it is made easier when you know the people on the other side of the conversation are there to listen because they care, and because everyone matters.

As a recent graduate, I’m using my newly discovered spare time to read more (psychology-related stuff, mainly), and spend more time in arcades while they are open this summer. I’ve been saving my tickets for 3 years now and I really don’t know why, except that I like arcades more than any adult probably should. Also, I want a remote-control helicopter.

Since volunteering with IMAlive, I’ve found even more empathetic and compassionate people as my fellow volunteers and supervisors, who have deeply touched me with their good hearts and unconditional support for each other.Their support, friendship, and teamwork makes me even prouder to be a part of IMAlive.
