Today marks a very special day in the world. Hundreds of unnamed angels and good Samaritans named Alex, each day help people in crisis when there is no one else to reach out to. IMAlive as the place they go to was born 7 years ago today.
In 2011 the founders of 1-800-SUICIDE realized the need for an alternative to phone calls was desperately needed and the response was building a network of trained crisis interventionist who could work from home or anywhere in the world from any device and 7 years ago today IMAlive was born.
They overcame many significant obstacles as there was no crisis center before that was built to be 100% virtual. There was no roadmap or manual. They wrote that as they went. And thanks to the amazing volunteers who stepped up and took the online training and practices many hours we are proud to say that after 7 years of providing effective crisis intervention and support services 7 days a week and most days 24 hours a day.
A very special thanks to John Plonski who developed the HEART Training and conducted many of the certifications and provided much of that roadmap and manual called “IMAlive”.
Through the care and nurturing from IMAlive co-founder Elena Butler and Anna Ziska they formed a team of supervisors (after they nearly burnt themselves out handling all the shifts for what seemed like years, oh wait it was) that provide amazing support and feedback for the volunteers in real time.
Lastly without the support and commitment of Random Acts, their founder Misha Collins, and the amazing world of the SPN fans and supporters we could not have gotten to where we are today. It is no coincidence that he plays an Angel on the popular CW Show Supernatural. He was truly the angel we needed to grow the IMAlive family.
To each member of the IMAlive Family, my deepest gratitude goes out to each of you. Without you, there would be no IMAlive. Each human connection is so important.
