Are you feeling overwhelmed by the number of Facebook friends you have that post things you are just not into? Tired of those passive aggressive comments from that one aunt that just doesn’t like you? Are you just frustrated with the constant battles about current politics? Or is your favourite tv show being spoilered just because you need to watch a day late? Well, you’re luck! Today is National Unfriend Day.
Take that day to clean up your friends list. How might you do that you ask? Just think – What would Mario Kondo do? Does this person bring joy to your feed? To you? Are their posts brightening your day or do you roll your eyes more often than not? Got someone who never interacts with you? Maybe someone that doesn’t even use their Facebook? Think about if you really need that person you met at a party one night 3 years ago and have literally never spoken to again. Do they really need to know what is going on in your life?
Today is the day to clean up those friends on not just Facebook but all your social media today. And why stop there? If you have a friend in your life that doesn’t bring you joy anymore, maybe it’s time to take a closer look at that relationship and consider whether it is worth keeping.
It can be nerve-wracking to make these changes but remember in the end you have to do what is best for yourself and if re-evaluating relation- and friendships is part of your self-care then who is there to tell you otherwise?
And here is a small tip if you are too nervous to unfriend a family member or friend: you can always hide them from your timeline so you don’t have to see their posts. Don’t want them commenting on your pictures? Put them on a restricted list so they don’t see as many of your posts. Remember, your social media and life is yours. You can change it up and edit it however you want to make your life easier.
