Inside the Life of a Volunteer

IMG_7257Marielena from Florida

Aside from gaining valuable experience in crisis intervention with diverse people from around the world, I wanted to find meaningful work that I knew I can make an impact on big or small. Considering my difficult situation in getting involvement due to lack of transportation and living with family, I thought that volunteering here would be a great chance to build skills and network with people even while being at home. I have also wanted to get insights on IMAlive’s viewpoints on people with crisis and best ways to handle them that can apply in any situation from schooling to personal relationships.

I am finishing my master’s in global strategic communications from Florida International University, work as a temporary instructor (substitute), journal, draw, play with pets (2 dogs and a cat), play video games such as animal crossing, anime, and self-reflect. I hope to find a job in crisis counselling or in a similar field while balancing this with personal responsibilities and fun goals.
