Inside the Life of an Volunteer

Beverley from Queensland, Australia

Volunteering for IMAlive came natural to me and brought me a sense of calm, a feeling that I am doing some good in the world, especially in these trying times.I work with Special Needs students, linking them with external services and writing educational programs so obstacles in order to achieve goodness was not foreign to me. Also having been through some major challenges in my own life, I came to realise that not everyone is lucky enough to have friends and family to support them or even a basic need like a roof over their head. Volunteering has made me more aware of the diverse needs in my community and outside in the wider world. We have moved countries several times and each change brings a new set of challenges, opportunities and difficulties. Something I realised later in life but have not come to accept is that it’s never too late to make changes.

Outside of IMAlive, I’ve recently discovered a love of writings and have delved into the world of fanfics. You can also usually catch me watching  Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Star Trek, Sherlock and the like. As you can tell, I’m a huge Sci-Fi fan!
