“We rise by lifting others.” – Robert Ingersoll
Erin emerged as one of our October Volunteers of the Month with dedication and class and we’re so proud of having them as part of the team since 2017. Erin came in laser-focused with the pure intent of standing beside others while being wonderfully compassionate and eager to learn in the hopes of helping others to weather through their storms. They joined IMAlive with the expectations of becoming more sensitive to those in fraught situations while effectively and meaningfully contributing to the overall wellbeing. Nearing 700 hours of volunteer work, it’s safe to say that Erin fulfilled those expectations and more.
One of the supervisors who have had the joy of directly working with Erin says they are most deserving of this award and continued by saying, Eric does “wonderful job at seeing the direction each chat is going and using that knowledge to steer it in a productive direction. They are a pleasure to have on shifts, and I do look forward to working with them more! They deserve this recognition.” We cannot say enough how much Erin makes a difference in each shift they attend and continues to pave a wondrous path for future volunteers to follow. Congratulations to them!
It is almost kismet that Nick joined IMAlive in November of 2018. Now, four years later, Nick has been named October’s Volunteer of the Month, displaying the true definition of heart, empathy, and optimism. With over 300 hours behind them and many more ahead, Nick has established themselves as a wonderful volunteer, an asset to crisis prevention, and a positive human being. Over the last few year, their capability of listening, understanding, and generally being there for others has grown and expanded. It leaves us confident in the fact they would not only apply their skills to volunteering to every person they meet. Supervisors have praised Nick for “being fantastic with difficult chats, applying their knowledge and empathy to ease the chatter – whether they are anxious, worried, belligerent, or even a potential prank. They respond with intelligence and understanding. Their responses are spot-on, personalized for the individual, and encourage deeper conversations. They are a pleasure to work with.”
Though Nick hoped to gain a new source of self-fulfillment of making a difference in the world, it’s clear that they’ve also gained a wider perspective in the situation people find themselves in and further aides in the volunteer work they do creating a farther and more steady ripple effect in mental health. IMAlive is honored to have Nick as a volunteer and ever more so to award them October’s Volunteer of the Month. Congratulations!
